School Lane

Project Brief
The tastefully converted 19th century farm buildings on the right of the top photograph made an ideal family home but lacked a Garage, storage and workshop area.
Local planners were particular that every effort be made to ensure that the project blended seamlessly with the existing buildings and used local building materials.
The stone was sourced from a small private quarry and was selected and graded to match the old stone in the main building. The roof is Chinese slate which has varied colour and slight irregularity of size, helping us to give a more aged appearance.
We used traditional methods wherever possible to give a more natural look. The oak posts and braces at the side are supported on saddle stones, custom made on site from coarse river aggregate and white cement. The roof frame is a traditional truss and perlin design with English Oak main beams. And the loft vent in the front gable was also made on site, cut down and dressed by hand.
Client Comments
We love the colour and texture of the stonework, it looks like it's been there for ever.
